Twitching the Purple Sandpiper

This high Arctic breeder has alluded me for many years as it tends to visit Europe when I most likely want to visit, and that's in the heart of the European winter.

Eventually I have caught up with it on the shores of the Zuid-Kennemetland National Park.

Southern Ground Hornbills are listed as an Endangered species and the combination of conservation threats, the use of magical medicine, and their poor reproductive success rate has influenced their numbers.

I, however, also have a favorite owl. Today, I found my favorite owl stunned by a truck next to the side of the road. I decided to move him as quickly as possible to save him from getting hit again, and without hesitation, it climbed onto my hand. The Danger Point Lighthouse serves as a warning about the dangers which the rugged coast and often rough seas hold.

The Birkenhead Memorial commemorate the sinking of the HMS Birkenhead, and the 445 souls who lost their lives, many believed to have been taken by Great White Sharks.

Of the 638 passengers on board, not a single woman or child lost their lives, as the Captain's orders were Women and Children first.

The actions of the Captain and his crew were immortalised by Rudyard Kipling, which became known as the 'Birkenhead Drill'.
